some words from al fahmi...
"we're indeed surprise by the positive response you guys reacted towards us coz like I told you, we're nothing in Singapore, not well receive as what we'd in Malaysia & more incredibly in Philippines. I'm really glad that most of my personal Metal U/G contacts came to meet us in person & witness what our show, though the CDs & 'zines we sold at very low price & most of the things got traded but the main point it moves alot & hoping that the trust in our music future will be brighter from your scene. Certainly our stay in Manila is worthy & interesting experience."
"So how's the other guys pare? Send my bloody regards to everybody that we've meet through our stay "

deathill777 - where is the staple gig report? aaarrrggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Fuck! It’s been ages since I last went to an ANK gig, it’s also been ages since I last wrote. My memory is cloudy but fuck it. Beast Petrify only stayed for three days in the Philippines but for us maniacs their non-stop set was something we will never forget. I first got acquainted with their brand of thrashing insanity when Nonoy Sodom let me hear Enigma of Hypnosis, it was kickass.
Al-Fahmi and Scyfrul first step foot in Philippine Soil a few minutes before six a.m. to be greeted by Denver and Nonoy holding a sign saying “Beast Petrify (NO POSERS!) “ ( I still have the sign haha) after meeting each other at NAIA Terminal 1 they rode a taxi to my house and ate breakfast. Then all of us got on a bus and went to U.N. Ave where Assad, a mini mart catered to Indians, Muslims and people of the Hindu and Islam faith was located.
all the while Nonoy and I were talking about The Exoricst and William Peter Blatty. When we got off the bus, I pointed at the building where my school was and we walked for a long time to Assad to get some Halal meat for our metal guests( avoiding the huge 1000000 wheeler –death trucks along the way.) I can never be absent for school since we do real time shit and serve real guests so I parted ways with them soon after, hurriedly putting on my apron and being 2 ½ hours late( I slipped into the kitchen unnoticed and had enough time to cook the shit assigned to my group haha.. )
After my kitchen work was done I rode the LRT to Roosevelt Station and grabbed a jeep to the Paganstudios to catch BP and PF’s rehearsals. I saw M.A and teased him about his Christian oriented ballers and greeted everyone. I was really stoked by the extremity of passion and the amount of energy BP bursts out with on their songs. Al-Fahmi had lightning fast hands and a virtuosic grasp of his instrument and Scyfrul was a beast with non-stop consistency and precise badassery, they were tight and intense and this was all before 8PM haha. I had the honor of jamming Flag of Hate and Blasphemer w/ them but my amateur bass skills(read: I suck) was no match for their blitzkrieg versions of the songs. (soooo faaaastttt) Paganfire had their turn and barged through their setlist for the next day, To Hunt, Glorious Arson, Power of Authority, Terminator aaargh I forgot what else but rest assured there was too much “metal assault on the ears” in one small room for the day. When Mac of Internment and Edward of Corrupt finally arrived BP went over their list of covers for the final supergroup/jam band for tomorrow, Silent Scream, Angel of Death, Blasphemer, Black Magic etc. It was awesome. Edward was joking about how his hand has already formed new blisters because of the breakneck speed BP went through the songs. There was a last minute addition to the covers which was Motorbreath with Kuya Jay of PF on the kit, they had it done in no time and it was time to go, some autographs, group pics and jokes after, we all said our goodbyes and went our separate ways after the rehearsal.
(Fast forward to the next day)
I woke up late and went to sir Noy’s house to get first dibs on B.P.’s merch got Abysmal Scriptures zines and Intrication from Al-Fahmi, then I handed out demo’s of my band and a copy of my zine, Al-Fahmi traded me Webbed which was awesome since I wasn’t expecting anything in return, I also saw kuya Jay and ate Janice(tofu master!!!!) there. We ate an awesome dinner at 7 o clock and then all of us rode Jay’s auto to the venue while blasting Kill ‘em All!
We set up the merch table when we arrived then just talked and shit. I psyched myself up telling myself to avoid alcohol. The early birds caught BP’s devastating soundcheck and all was well in terms of the P.A. and the bar equipments, it got me pumped up, BP sounded great, much more so than yesterday being backed up by a superior system, they said that the bar was one of the places that had a better sound for them, the night started out with so much promise.
The gig started too late at around 10 IIRC, not too much bangers were present and I was worried the attendance would be low . The first band to crush the stage with audio assault was the death metal madness of Pathogen and Neo asked me to record their set w/ his camera. They played two new songs still with the same pathogenic virulence that makes the band skullcrushingly awesome( Incestuous Necrophilia?) , they also played Blood Orgy and their first Tagalog song “Sa Landas ng Diablo” I had trouble fully enjoying their set as headbanging too much would fuck up the footage haha. I talked to the band after their set and accdg. to them the P.O. lost their new release on cassette tape or maybe the label is fucking them over or something. Fuck. I hope not. Next to defile the stage w/ their ritualistic dark hymns was Karimlan, a band I am always eager to hear live as their brand of black metal or what they claim as “Dark n Roll” is cool with me. I love the punky shit they throw in there and the half time(not sure on the term?) parts. Unfortunately I was guarding the gate at the moment and didn’t have the opportunity to be front and center, I grabbed another copy of their recent demo after their set cause I always trade out my personal copy for some reason.
Another set of blackened warriors test their might against the crowd as Sacrosanct sets up. Another one I am really pissed off I missed, I also grabbed a copy of their new demo, with the humorous titled track “Pastor Masturbator” so grab a copy before its sold out! (Only 5 were sold at the show I think.)
Paganfire played their thrashing mayhem of a set with one of their new-ish songs finally getting a name (Power of Authority )I forgot the setlist but I’m sure the first song was To hunt! To Kill! To Fucking Devour! It ruled . Sounded so much like the version from the Pagan/Sacrosanct split with the slow chanting of “ To Hunt Kill! To Devour! “ fueled by the crowds enthusiasm followed by a raging solo from the axeman. They also played the forbidden song ( Glorious Arson ) w/ Nonoy Sodom on vocals and people from the crowd taking the extra mic and singing! Fucking awesome. They also played my favorite song! Terminator!!!!! Eeeurgh! I think they ended the set w/ the ANK anthem(Durugin at Kayo’y Sumpain) but not too much people knew the exact lyrics to it yet and couldn’t chant along with the band hahaha.
At this point of the night I think Emman of Delusion of Terror distro set up some Hirax dvd’s and 7” for sale at the merch table and it got the attention of some of the diehard thrashing maniacs( He still has some Hirax CD/DVD’s and 7” splits left. Google is your friend! ) Finally the moment we have all been waiting for has come, the ferociously insane duo takes up the stage.
The mighty beasts from Singapore was next, they set up as the crowd gathers in excitement. Al-Fahmi talked about how he would only pause to say a few words once because they play non-stop without any breaks. I was awe-struck when they began their set and needed a few minutes to process how intense BP was and I mean really INTENSE. They’re probably the best foreign band I have ever seen in the 3 years that I’ve been attending gigs and its mighty ironic seeing how there are only two of them that creates such ardent and extraordinary progressive thrashing metal madness when 6 member bands complete with fancy gear and fuck knows what else, pales in comparison to the unique, crushing, chaotic atmosphere of impending doom these guys create on stage. I had absolutely no idea what was going on most of the time because it was an overall new experience for me.
Beast Petrify did not stop for a single second for the first part of their set so most of us who aren’t die-hard fans of their discography didn’t know when a song starts and ends. 15 to 20 minutes into joyous insanity 1 of the 2 amps was fucking up and failing, it was cringe worthy and hard on the ears, but BP persevered and acted as if the technical difficulties was non-existent. Funny how Infernal Curse threw a teenage fit with the slightest feedback that could’ve been rectified and we have BP that doesn’t stop even with real problems, both extremes, fucking awesome.
Noy held up a sign saying something along the lines of “We have to change amps” or “take a break” they stopped a few more songs after that and apologized saying they usually don’t stop. The amps were changed fast and the slaughter continued up until the point where the crowd was the first one to get tired before the band. It’s far out since this was probably the first time it ever happened in an ANK event only a few people was left when BP finished their set and those who missed out on such an awesome experience will live to regret it.
ANK staple Corrupt Insanity was next, they just recently released their first full length entitled Human Mania so check that out, it fucking rules. They smashed through their set fast, playing around 6-8 songs with the crowd singing along to awesome thrashers Evil Bridges and Human Mania and Creeping Death from Metallica. They ruled.
After Corrupt Insanity was the surprisingly revamped Mass Hypnosia with Paul Magat on the kit. They also ruled the night, really intense and tight. Their own songs sound so much different w/ a drummer that can match the bands vision of thrashing metal, great choice. It was awesome. Somehow Karl’s vocals sounded eerily similar to Demolition Hammer into their set playing “Here’s The Knife”, “Reason for Treason” and “Blood Spotted Bullet Face”
After the gig, I went home and listened to Intrication till morning while reading the zines! Haha.
The BP gig was a great year starter for ANK and all maniacs alike. Glad that I got to be part of the experience! I hope they come back and break our necks again sometime soon! Aargh. -C.

to deathill777, I think the "new Paganfire song" you're referring is: POWER ELITIST (the evil manipulist and rapist of justice) and NOT "Power of Authority"

to hunt that tape will be so hard by this time...and I know that some so-called "collectors" will sell that for a very ridiculous price...Tasteless Revenge CD (out from Old Cemetery Recs) is the easiest way to achieve "Tasless Revenge" and it includes bonus tracks...and it is still available...anyone interested, just ask the band members....BUT it does not have printed lyrics on it ;D
